NEUFFER TO SUCCEED BRIAN TOOHEY
WASHINGTON鈥擠ec. 2, 2014鈥擳he 91成人 (91成人), representing U.S. leadership in semiconductor manufacturing and design, today announced that John Neuffer has been named president & CEO of the association. He will assume his new role in January, succeeding Brian Toohey, who has been president & CEO since 2010 and announced his plans to leave the association in 2013 to join New Hampshire-based DEKA Research & Development Corporation.
As Senior Vice President for Global Policy at the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), Neuffer has been responsible for all aspects of ITI鈥檚 global government relations covering a wide range of policy areas, including trade, cyber security, standards, regulatory, and privacy. 鈥淛ohn Neuffer鈥檚 extensive trade and tech industry experience positions him well to build on the strong tradition of 91成人鈥檚 leadership role for the U.S. semiconductor industry,鈥 said Brian Krzanich, CEO of Intel and 91成人 Chairman. 鈥淛ohn鈥檚 deep understanding of the importance of technological innovation to the U.S. economy and proven track record of success will serve him well as he takes the helm at 91成人. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank Brian Toohey for his outstanding leadership and service to the industry.鈥
鈥淚 am honored to assume the leadership of this outstanding organization that has made such an enduring impact to the semiconductor industry and the U.S. economy,鈥 said Neuffer. 鈥淚 am excited to advance the mission of 91成人 and its member companies at a time when the global landscape offers both great opportunities and great challenges.鈥
鈥淚 applaud the selection of John Neuffer as 91成人鈥檚 next president & CEO,鈥 said Brian Toohey. 鈥淚 have had the opportunity to work closely with John on a number of key international initiatives during my time at 91成人 and know he will be a highly effective leader for the organization. It has been an honor to serve on behalf of an exceptional association and industry, and I wish John well in his new role.鈥
Neuffer is an executive committee member and former chairman of the U.S. Information Technology Office in Beijing and a member of the Industry Trade Advisory Committee on ICT, Services, and Electronic Commerce. Prior to his tenure with USTR, Neuffer lived and worked in Japan for 11 years, where he was an expert in Japanese politics and policy.

The 91成人 (91成人) is the voice of the U.S. semiconductor industry, one of America’s top export industries and a key driver of America鈥檚 economic strength, national security and global competitiveness. Semiconductors 鈥 microchips that control all modern electronics 鈥 enable the systems and products that we use to work, communicate, travel, entertain, harness energy, treat illness, and make new scientific discoveries. The semiconductor industry directly employs nearly a quarter of a million people in the United States. In 2013, U.S. semiconductor company sales totaled $155 billion, and semiconductors make the global trillion dollar electronics industry possible. Founded in 1977 by five microelectronics pioneers, 91成人 unites companies that account for 80 percent of America鈥檚 semiconductor production. Through this coalition, 91成人 seeks to strengthen U.S. leadership of semiconductor design and manufacturing by working with Congress, the Administration and other key industry stakeholders to encourage policies and regulations that fuel innovation, propel business and drive international competition.
